    • Frequently asked questions

With NICORETTE® QuickMist you can help your customers quit smoking with a new and unique format.1,2

Detailed information on NICORETTE® QuickMist indication, handling, efficacy and precautions is available in the Summary of Product characteristics.3

      NICORETTE® QuickMist indication and dosing

      • What is NICORETTE® QuickMist spray indicated for?

NICORETTE® QuickMist spray is indicated for the treatment of tobacco dependence by relieving nicotine craving and withdrawal symptoms. It is indicated to aid smokers wishing to quit or reduce prior to quitting, to assist smokers who are unwilling or unable to smoke, and as a safer alternative to smoking for smokers and those around them. NICORETTE® QuickMist is indicated in pregnant and lactating women making a quit attempt3

      • What level of dependency is NICORETTE® QuickMist spray indicated for?

NICORETTE® QuickMist offers the flexibility to be recommended for all levels of smoker regardless of whether they are high or low dependent smokers.3

      • What is the recommended dosage of NICORETTE® QuickMist spray?

Recommend 1-2 sprays when cigarettes would normally have been smoked or when cravings occur. If after the first spray cravings are not controlled within a few minutes, a second spray should be used. If 2 sprays are required, future doses may be delivered as 2 consecutive sprays and up to 4 sprays per hour. So for example if a customer smokes 15 cigarettes per day, 1-2 sprays should be used at least 15 times a day. The maximum is 64 sprays within any 24-hour period.3

      • Can people younger than 18 years use NICORETTE® QuickMist?

NICORETTE® QuickMist is indicated for use by adults and children over 12 years of age3

The NICORETTE® QuickMist dispenser and spray

      • How is the NICORETTE® QuickMist spray dispenser opened?

Advise smokers to use their thumb to slide down the button (a)

until it can be pushed lightly inwards (b).

Smokers should not push too hard. While pushing in, smokers should then slide upwards (c) to unlock the top of the dispenser. Then release the button.4

      • How do smokers load/prime the NICORETTE® QuickMist spray dispenser?

Advise smokers to point the nozzle away from the face and press the dispenser until a fine spray appears. If the spray is not used for 2 days, this loading procedure may need to be repeated.4

      • How do smokers use the NICORETTE® QuickMist spray dispenser?

Smokers should be advised to point the spray nozzle towards the open mouth, holding it as close as possible. Press the top of the opened dispenser to release one or two sprays into the mouth, avoiding the lips. Advise smokers not to inhale while spraying. For best results advise smokers not to swallow for a few seconds after spraying.3

      • How many doses are there per NICORETTE® QuickMist spray dispenser?

At least 150 doses per dispenser. One mg per dose.3

      • On average how long does the NICORETTE® QuickMist spray dispenser last?

The time that the dispenser lasts depends on the number of cigarettes the user used to smoke and how much additional craving relief is needed. For example, a smoker of 10 cigarettes a day should use 10 to 20 sprays per day, so one dispenser would last one to two weeks.3

      • How will smokers know when the dispenser is empty?

The spray will cease to be released.

      Contraindication and potential side effects

      • Are there any contraindications to use of NICORETTE® QuickMist spray?

Hypersensitivity to nicotine or any other ingredients in the spray and use in children and adolescents under 12 years3

      • What is the side effect profile of NICORETTE® QuickMist?

Within the clinical study programme most adverse events were mild to moderate2 and similar in type to other oral NRTs. No serious drug related adverse events were reported in the phase III study.2 Smokers should be advised that they may experience hiccups while using the product. One of the most common adverse effects experienced with NICORETTE® QuickMist is hiccups (reported by 57% of subjects in the Phase III study with NICORETTE® QuickMist); however the majority of cases were reported as mild to moderate and generally tolerated with continued use of the product.2 The risk of hiccups can be reduced by advising smokers not to swallow for a few seconds after spraying.

      • Given the unique form, are there any temporary/initial effects in the early phase of treatment, when smokers are familiarising themselves with the product?

The NICORETTE® QuickMist spray has a mint taste that gives a strong taste sensation. Advise smokers in advance they are likely to experience this sensation.

      • Does the NICORETTE® QuickMist spray affect the tissue in the mouth?

Visual inspection of the oral cavity was conducted at baseline, 2, 12, and 24 weeks, by a dentist in the phase III clinical study. The incidence of abnormalities and lesions was < 2% for all events and was similar between QuickMist spray and placebo.

      • Can smokers continue to drive and use machines while quitting with NICORETTE® QuickMist spray?

Yes, no effects on the ability to drive cars or use machines has been observed.3

      • Can smokers become dependent on NICORETTE® QuickMist spray?

Smokers are already addicted to nicotine and the use of NICORETTE® QuickMist will help break this dependence by replacing the nicotine from cigarette with a lower dose of nicotine in a less addictive form, and then the number of sprays is gradually reduced over time.3 Transferred dependence can occur with NRT but is both less harmful and easier to break than smoking dependence.3
